Anytime a print driver is updated on the Windows 7 operating system with FaxUtil installed, some advanced properties on the RightFax Fax Printer get reset. In order for Print to Fax to resume functionality, these settings need to be reconfigured to work with RightFax as expected.
There are two special considerations for Microsoft Windows 7 for Print to Fax:
- Windows 7 does not include the HP Laser Jet 4 printer driver, so it will need to be installed at some point for Print-to-fax to work.
- If any print driver is changed in Windows 7, the print processor for the RightFax Fax Printer is reset to Windows, preventing the fax dialog from appearing.
The location where this can be changed back is as follows:
Devices and Printers -> RightFax Fax Printer -> Right-click, select Printer Properties -> Advanced -> Print Processor
This will default back over to winprint if/when any driver is updated. This should be set to RFPrint in order for Print-to-Fax to function correctly. Also note that the HP LaserJet 4 printer should be selected.
There is a registry key to control this setting:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\RightFax Fax Printer] “Print Processor”=”RFPrint”
You may also see an issue where you don't see the expected FaxUtil Fax Information popup when you attempt to submit a job through this method.
To resolve this issue, Right-click the RightFax system tray icon and select ‘Configuration’
Find the ‘RightFax Fax Printer’ and, if configured for Windows, change to RightFax
