With RightFax, Fax Viewer has "Default Gray-Scale" set to "Off - Fast" by default. This allows the quickest return of images, but the quality of fax data, text, and pictures is affected.

NOTE: This feature has been removed as of RightFax 10.6 FP2.  The default as of 10.6 FP2 and higher is to show the best quality fax. The instructions below only apply to previous versions.

A 16 shade gray scale can be enabled in two ways:

From FaxUtil Perform the following steps:

1. Open FaxUtil.
2. Double-click on any fax to open Fax Viewer and then select a fax and open the viewer.
a) If faxes are not present, create a new fax, and use the "Hold for preview" option.
b) Send the fax. It should proceed through the conversion process, and then the item should appear to be in the "Held for Preview" status.
3. Go to Tools > Options. The Viewer Options dialog box should open.
4. In the "Default Gray-Scale" drop-down list, select "16 Shades - High Quality," and click OK.

When you open any fax, you should now see a noticeable difference.

NOTE: The "Default Gray-Scale" option must be changed on each user's computer using this method. However, to make the process more seamless to end users, it is possible to implement this change by modifying a registry subkey.

Let's take a look:

1. Open Registry Editor.
2. Modify the following registry subkey:

Name: GrayScale
Data: Value 2 (hexadecimal)

And now your faxes should show improved quality over the default gray scale options.
